Company History

In 1934 Edgar (Bunny) Hart started a company called Hampshire Cleansing Services (HCS) with the purchase of a second-hand Dennis tanker from Wokingham Rural Council for the sum of £5.00. It had solid tyres, an 800 gallon capacity tank and a dropdown windshield, no cab heater and the sewage was spread to land by opening the rear valve and driving across the field as quickly or as slowly as possible depending on how concentrated you wanted the spread - what halcyon days!

Today, head office is still on the original site in Botley, Hampshire and the Hart family are still the principal shareholders, but with many of the company’s employees also owning equity.

Expansion for the company has come through organic growth and acquisition. It has also come through foresight by building its own treatment facilities for oily waters and was the first UK Company to import what is now an every day vehicle for the collection of industrial dry waste, the "Front End Loader."

The Company has had several name changes over the years and is now known as Cleansing Service Group Limited, owning brand names such as CSG Lanstar and CSG Lloyds to name but a few.
